Along with the Chrysler Airflow, the closely related DeSoto Airflow is considered the first truly modern production automobile�a car well ahead of its time. Using a wind tunnel, great care was taken to achieve an aerodynamic efficiency that exceeded most cars built decades later. The body employed a beam-and-truss structure that achieved great strength with relatively light weight.

Model:	Thunderbird Sport Roadster

By 1962 the Ford Thunderbird had morphed from the sporty two-seater of the mid-fifties into a slick boulevard cruiser. However, when fans of the old T-Bird clamored for a vehicle more like the original, Ford Division Chief Lee Iacocca obliged with a special Sports Roadster version. The main difference was a fiberglass tonneau that covered the rear seats, and formed twin headrests for the front passengers. Also included were snazzy Kelsey-Hayes chrome wire wheels with knock-off hubs. Sports Roadster T-Birds are among the most rare and coveted versions of this classic American car.
