Along with the Chrysler Airflow, the closely related DeSoto Airflow is considered the first truly modern production automobile—a car well ahead of its time. Using a wind tunnel, great care was taken to achieve an aerodynamic efficiency that exceeded most cars built decades later. The body employed a beam-and-truss structure that achieved great strength with relatively light weight.
